I became a financial adviser to make a positive difference in people’s lives. I enjoy helping clients achieve financial success and feel a deep sense of responsibility when I am entrusted with this important aspect of people’s lives.
When my wife joined the Foreign Service in 1993, there was little easily accessible information about employee benefits — especially from overseas. This made planning for our financial future a frustrating experience. While still in private industry, we had worked with a financial advisor, who provided invaluable guidance to us as a young couple. However, once in the Foreign Service there were no advisors to consult who understood our way of life. It was up to me to sort it all out. I like to say that I didn’t read the book on wealth management for the Foreign Service, I wrote it.
From an early age, I felt an inner drive for continuous personal development. This need carried over to my business in a way similar to the Japanese principle of “kaizen” – continuous improvement. I am always looking for ways to improve my practice and myself. (In August 2017 I completed the first year of a high-intensity strength and fitness program with my son and have enrolled in a rigorous cooking instruction course.)
